The way I see it, there are 2 types of people; those who enjoy camping and those who don’t. I have a friend that when I tell her we’re going camping she cringes because to her it sounds like a pure nightmare, but for me it can actually feel like a relaxing vacation (there was a day where I never would have thought this).
Since my venture into packing lighter I’ve found 5 simple benefits to packing light. If you aren’t so sure just give it a try for one trip and see how you feel. You may never go back to that crazy, fill-the-hotel-room packing! Here are the benefits I’ve found:
1. Opportunity to get creative– I actually find it fun to get creative with my clothing pieces. It’s almost like a weird fashion puzzle. Lay out a few pieces and accessories and see how much you can mix and match them to make different outfits.
As a child my parents took me on quite a bit of vacations. We saw beautiful beaches and fun amusement parks. We made wonderful memories as a family and with some our friends we traveled with. I’ll never forget those special times.
Since being married and becoming a mom I’ve looked a little more in depth into the way we travel, specifically where we stay. In the past we always stayed in hotels. ALWAYS! In fact, I never really even thought about other options, besides the occasional cabin.
When traveling in Asheville, NC we stumbled upon an interesting “piece.” The “Before I die…” chalkboard wall. It was filled with what people want to accomplish before they die. Some very simple and easily achievable, others not so much. Very interesting to read what people had written. Had I not had my impatient 3 year old with me I probably would have taken time to read more. My question for you…what would you have written on the wall?
As I explore the minimalist lifestyle more and more I realize different facets of my life that it can be applied to. The most recent traveling…or rather packing! 1 year ago if you saw me traveling (for a weekend trip) I would have had a large suitcase for my clothes and shoes plus an extra case for makeup, toiletries and accessories. Don’t even get me started on what I would have packed for my son.
