The Blueberry Muffin

Today is my son’s birthday. Since it’s his birthday he got to pick where we would go for dinner. He could pick anywhere and what does he choose? Cracker Barrel! You see he orders the same thing from Cracker Barrel every time, a blueberry muffin and an order of bacon. For the longest time he thought muffins were cupcakes so I’m pretty sure he feels like he’s eating dessert for his meal and with the way we eat he basically is.

He’s been asking for a blueberry muffin since this weekend. He’s been talking about this blueberry muffin for literally 5 days. When he asked on Sunday we decided he could choose where to eat for his birthday. His decision never wavered…he was so freaking pumped about this bacon and blueberry muffin.

So tonight we venture out to dinner. On the way we tease him “You said Chick Fila right?” (enter approximately 5-7 other “foodhouses” as he calls them). Every time he giggled “NO CRACKER BARREL!!!”

We arrive at the “ultimate food house” and we get seated quickly, we order our food. Within 10 minutes the waitress comes out with our food. She passes out all of our food minus…I know you feel it coming with the big lead up to this point…she passes out all of our food minus THE BLUEBERRY MUFFIN, and announces they are all out of blueberry muffins. I have the look of “You’ve got to be kidding me.” My husband has the look of  “You’ve got to be f***ing kidding me” and my son has a terribly sad look; no fit, no anger just PURE DISAPPOINTMENT.

My initial thought is “man we are going to be coming back to freakin’ Cracker Barrel this weekend again aren’t we”…but if you know my husband you know that isn’t how this is going down. My husband asks the waitress for boxes so we can pack up our meals. We load up in the car and my husband starts looking for the next town over Cracker Barrel’s number. He calls on the way and orders a blueberry muffin to go. We drive 20 minutes and get our son the one thing he really wanted to eat for his birthday dinner (I will skip the story of discovering the hole in the bottom of my to-go drink on the way from Cracker Barrel #1 to Cracker Barrel #2).

We drive home, re-heat our meals and my son devours his blueberry muffin.

This was an unfortunate episode we had with the epic blueberry muffin but I learned 3 very important things tonight:

1.) You can let an unfortunate event get you down or you can keep persevering and go for what you want.

2.) You should do anything you can to make the ones you love happy, especially your children and even if it isn’t something that is important to you.

3.) There is nothing sexier than a man being a good dad.
