My husband and I have had several discussions on homeschooling and what we want our son to get out of this route of education. What we love most about homeschooling is the freedom to educate our son in not only the typical subject areas but in all facets of life.

We sat down and created an outline for the major areas we would like to be the focus for his schooling, at this point prek-12. We’re hoping that each year we can use this outline as a guide for what we want to teach him, allow him to explore, or expose him to. ┬áHere is what we’ve come up with so far:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Language

  • Finance/Accounting
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Addition/Subtraction, etc

  • Health
  • Biology
  • Astronomy
  • Engineering
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

Social Studies

  • History
    • US
    • World
  • Government
  • Politics
  • Current Events

  • Art
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Religion

Physical Fitness

Life Skills

  • Money Management
  • Home Improvement
  • Cooking
  • Laundry
  • Sewing
  • Auto Repair

  • Marketing
  • Project Management

  • Web Development
  • Databases
  • Computer Programming

Service Projects

Extra Curricular Activities

  • Athletics
  • Music
  • Acting
  • Outdoor

It seems like a lot of “subject areas” but we’re hoping that education will be non-stop…not an 8am-3pm kind of deal. We’re excited to see how we can come up with fun ways to teach and explore these concepts throughout his education.
